Iris
Designed by Marshmallow Laser Feast and Ruairi Glynn for the Lowry Theatre in Manchester, United Kingdom. This beautiful light show was accompanied by a musical composition by Oliver Coates.
Iris was composed of forty laser modules that were fitted to a large cross-structure suspended fifteen metres above the theatre floor. The laser rig was programmed to create a series of intricate three dimensional patterns across the space. Kai Lab developed the custom electronics and mechanical parts for the laser modules in collobaration with Interactive Architecture Lab. These were capable of two-axis real-time rotation and had controllable beam intensity.
Other collaborators were Wallace Hobbs (control software) and Adam Heslop (animator).
