Sound Insects

Sound Insects - Exploring emergent patterns in self-organising systems

Sound Insects is a generative musical performance projected from a group of custom sound modules. The dynamic composition evolves in real time, depending on where the modules are placed as well as how the audience chooses to interact with the system. The immersive environment created is peaceful and meditative, and the interactive element engages the audience beyond the normal limits of musical performance.

Each sound module collaborates with its neighbours to create rhythmic patterns or harmonic intervals. The result is a spatialised emergent musical performance that evolves throughout time depending on the position of the modules and the way the audience interacts with them.

For this project, our designer and engineer Marguerite Tricaud worked in collaboration with the Interactive Architecture lab.
